Metropolitan Herman Swaiko was the primate of the Orthodox Church in America (OCA) from 2002 to 2008. He was forced to resign his position because of his role in the OCA's financial scandal.
Swaiko was also among those named in the lawsuit filed by Kristine Patico Koumentakos. In that complaint Archpriest Raymond Velencia was accused of publishing Koumentakos' confidential information, information which was obtained through confession and/or confidential counseling.
Barely a month after the lawsuit was filed, Velencia received a clergy award from Swaiko.

In 2010 an internal investigation of the OCA reported on alleged financial improprieties at St. Tikhon's Monastery in South Canaan, Pennsylvania, when Swaiko was in charge of the facility.
In retirement, Swaiko lives on the monastery grounds.
